Project: MANHUNT
Type : TITLE DESIGN
Synopsis
We were delighted by the opportunity to pitch for the main titles of the Apple series, “Manhunt,” based on the novel by James L. Swanson. We wanted to explore the confusion and anger surrounding the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln, a turning point remembered as one of the greatest collective losses in American history. It was critical to uncover the emotional journey of how the characters experienced this shocking tragedy while fighting to bring John Wilkes Booth to justice
Inspiration : Hand of Justice
There's a belief that destroying a symbol extinguishes the idea it represents. By subverting it, you strip it of its power. This concept delved into the destruction of virtuous symbols, whether by flame or tearing them up and rendering them useless. In such instances, our vengeance can become all consuming, akin to a fire itself, fueling a determination to bring the culprit to justice.

The Emancipation Proclamation, one of the most significant documents in the history of the United States, symbolizes the abolition of slavery and the ideals of freedom and equality. In many ways, the desecration of such a symbol could carry a weight beyond the assassination of the President himself, but the principles it represents would endure in those who sought to bring his murderer to justice.
Pitch 1 : Destruction of the Sacred
Pitch 2 : Bathed in Red
The cover of the original novel was tinted red, which we found to be eye catching. Bathing our boards in red created a heightened sense of both anger and danger within our images.
Rather than destroying documents that represented symbols of the country, we instead played with ideas of setting fire to statues of Justice and President Lincoln.
Pitch 3 : Statues and Symbols
